Bad Aspartame:

Because you are concerned about your weight, you think the substitutes, such as aspartame, are better than sugar for your health? Big mistake ...

At first glance, it's great: sweet tooth without suffering the inconvenience of calories! However, the list of complaints related to this sugar substitute continues to grow, particularly in the United States, where a large consumer products observed "diet". Worse, we now know that aspartame consumption causes side effects ranging from simple headaches to brain tumors.

 

Indeed, statistics from the US National Cancer Institute reveal the alarming increase in brain tumors: in 1983, 2.1% of cancers in men were at the brain; in 1987, the incidence had increased to 8.1% for the gentlemen, even climbing to 11.7% for women! By digging the question, the researchers found that this sharp rise coincides precisely with the appearance in 1983, soft drinks sweetened with aspartame. The debate for its withdrawal from the market has not stopped since.

 

Additive or drugs?

Aspartame was discovered by accident in 1965 at the Searle laboratory in the United States, by a scientist who was trying to develop a drug against ulcers. Tasting a pinch of the powder, it would have realized that it had a surprisingly sweet taste. This discovery was a blessing for the food industry, who sought an alternative to cyclamate and saccharin in foods banned by the government since studies in animals showed that they resulted cancers. In Canada, these two sweeteners are still available in bags in grocery stores, pharmacies and restaurants. Aspartame has been authorized in dry foods in 1981 and in soft drinks in 1983.

 

Marketed as NutraSweet and Equal, aspartame is a genetically modified synthetic sweetener and composed of two amino acids (protein components), phenylalanine and aspartic acid. Its sweetening power is 200 times higher than that of sucrose.

 

Yet the path of aspartame rather leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. He even looks like a conspiracy, since the Pentagon has already appointed aspartame in an inventory of chemical weapons! In fact, both GD Searle, the company's chemicals and pharmaceuticals mentioned above, Monsanto, now the owner and manufacturer of aspartame, have tangible links to the manufacture of chemical weapons.

 

Expensive studies

It was in 1974 that aspartame is approved for the first time. Following two studies showing that this substance causes tumors in laboratory animals, the authorization is revoked. These studies have never been refuted since. In September 1980, after deliberation, a committee of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends against aspartame.

 

Four months later, GD Searle submits ten new studies "can", which will tip the balance in favor of aspartame by a vote: that the Commissioner Arthur Hayes ... who later hired by Searle! According to Dr. Adrian Gross, FDA toxicologist old, these studies are rubbish.

 

He noted that animal deaths were hidden, that tumors have not been reported and, in some cases, they have been extracted from the same animal, it has been delivered in the study !

 

In 1996, the physician and professor Ralph G. Walton, College of Medicine Northeastern Ohio Universities of, decided to analyze all scientific studies related to aspartame consumption. His comments speak for themselves: of the 174 studies reviewed, 74 were funded by industry aspartame, and 100% of them concluded that there was no issue with this product!

 

However, on 90 independent studies (unfunded), 83 (92%) have instead found one or more problems related to the use of this sweetener. Aspartame is the subject of controversy since its appearance; even its approval is a political rather than scientific decision. Disturbing side effects

The list of secondary effects associated with the consumption of aspartame is very long. Moreover, according to the journal Headache in November 1997, particularly sensitive people may experience effects at very low doses: chewing gum, for example, can cause a headache! In 1994, the FDA had already accumulated nearly 7,000 complaints of side effects linked to aspartame (the body does indeed want to compile the most complaints).

 

The most common are: headache (which was confirmed by several studies), dizziness, blurred vision, mood changes, abdominal pain and muscle cramps. In the US, airline pilots have even lost their license for demonstrating these symptoms within hours after ingestion of drinks with aspartame. Releases to this effect have also been issued in the bulletins of the US Air Force and U.S.. Navy personnel to prevent this risk.

 

Other symptoms include depression, memory loss, joint pain, menstrual disorders, seizures and even some death! And it does this is only a fraction of the effects currently associated with aspartame consumption, since most people have not yet made the connection between their health problems and product. Even if they do, only a small percentage of people and healthcare professionals take the time to report it to government authorities.

 

In 1991, the National Institute of Health has published a bibliography, Adverse Effects of Aspartame, listing no less than 167 reasons to avoid aspartame. A recent study also demonstrated that aspartame, as the sugar, results in urinary calcium, that is to say a loss of calcium in the urine.

 

Aspartame and Weight Gain

Since aspartame contains the same number of calories as sugar, but its sweetness is 200 times higher, how it reacts when the pancreas detects the language? Could it be that it sends a massive dose of insulin to counteract the misleading sensation? Does sugar drop that would result in the desire to eat again?

 

According Neuroscientist Richard Wurtman, high doses of the consumption of sweeteners such as aspartame actually provoke "crises" sugar. The American Cancer Society has confirmed this irony after following 80,000 women for six years. Among those who gained weight during this period, women using artificial sweeteners have taken more than those who do not consume.

 

Another study among a small group of women to diet shows that they tend to eat more during the days following the ingestion of aspartame sweetened drinks, compared to the ingestion of naturally sweetened beverages (study by JH Lavin and his colleagues, published in January 1997 in an international scientific journal Obesity). Even the simple act of chewing gum sweetened with aspartame increase appetite. A few other studies, however, did not show these effects.

 

Diet products it also assumes that people who drink tend to be less vigilant: a false sense of security could lead them to eat treats, here and there, since they have already "saved" ... In all this controversy, one thing is certain: sweeteners such as aspartame maintain the taste of sugar and do not allow to change its eating habits, the only guarantee of a lasting weight loss.

 

Diabetics, refrain

What to do?

· Approximately 2% of the population is infected, unknowingly, one of the two genes that cause phenylketonuria. However, aspartame contains phenylalanine, an amino acid that these persons can use for lack of a specific enzyme. These people should avoid all products that contain - including aspartame - the risk of seizures and severe mental disorders. When in doubt, avoid consuming aspartame.

 

· If you have persistent health problems and use of products sweetened with aspartame (diet drinks, chewing gum, pouches, yogurt, etc.), stop completely to consume for a month to see if your symptoms improve.

 

· You should carefully read the labels of all the products you buy, because aspartame has infiltrated everywhere (see here below). In my opinion, the more you will keep you away from this additive, the better off you will be.

 

Where is he hiding?

In 1992, aspartame appeared in more than 4,200 food products in the United States: some brands of ice cream, yogurt, puddings, jams, prepared desserts, breakfast cereals, salad dressings and frozen dinners contain. Worst: soft drinks "diet" sugar sachets Equal and chewing gum without sugar. The medicaments may also contain, as well as the sweet psyllium "sugar" shockable and vitamin supplements for children. Watch for labels.

 

Aspartame is unstable in liquids and decomposes when exposed to temperatures élevées- which occurs when heating aspartame, it is added to hot liquid (coffee) or when is stored for long periods at room temperature.

 

Product degradation resulting, among others, the formation of methanol, which breaks down into formaldehyde thereafter (known carcinogen), formic acid and diketopiperazine (DKP), responsible for all brain tumors.
